TL;DR BBR
BBR is a TCP congestion control algorithm developed by Google and enabled on every CloudSonic server by default, improving throughput and reducing latency.
BBR is a TCP congestion control algorithm developed by Google and enabled on every CloudSonic server by default. It improves network throughput and reduces latency compared to standard Linux TCP defaults, particularly for visitors on mobile networks or high latency connections. BBR operates at the kernel level and requires no configuration from your application or any awareness on your part.
BBR for Network Performance on CloudSonic
CloudSonic enables BBR at the kernel level during server provisioning by setting the TCP congestion control algorithm to BBR and loading the tcp_bbr kernel module. BBR is paired with tuned TCP buffer sizes and the FQ packet scheduler, which BBR requires to function correctly. These settings are applied via sysctl, persist across reboots, and take effect for all outbound TCP connections from the server including HTTP responses, database connections, and backup transfers to Backblaze B2.
